MAU: With marked improvement in the overall situation, authorities on Saturday lifted day curfew from the riot-torn town.

District authorities, which had lifted curfew in the eastern parts of the town yesterday, did so in the remaining areas on Saturday where night curfew would, however, remain in force as before, official sources said here.

There had been no untoward incident in any part of the town since the past couple of days and if situation continued to improve further, curfew could be lifted entirely by Monday, the sources said.

A high level meeting would be held to review the situation before taking a decision on lifting curfew, they added.

Security personnel were, however, continuing round the clock vigil while district authorities were concentrating on helping locals reconstruct their damaged properties and rehabilitate those affected by the communal clashes over Dusshera festivities in the town last month.
